Endocrinology

"What we feel and think and are is to a great extent determined by the state of our ductless glands and viscera."
–Aldous Huxley

Endocrinology is the field of medicine that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the endocrine system, which is comprised of 8 glands. The Pituitary, Thyroid, Adrenal, Ovaries, Testes, and Pancreas all secrete hormones that play a critical role in regulating biological functions, and disorders of the endocrine system can cause a variety of diseases. Diabetes is the most common Endocrine system-related disease, affecting more than 30 million adults and costing over $327 billion a year in the United States.
