Born in Germany but raised in Mexico City, Dr. Ernst attended medical school at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and completed his Family Practice Residency in Puerto Rico. In 1996 Dr. Ernst began work for Doctors Without Borders, stationed with French colleagues in Sri Lanka. An inveterate traveler and speaker of several languages, Dr. Ernst has also worked in Mexico, Thailand, and Malawi, treating everything from snakebites to Cholera outbreaks. In addition to travel, Dr. Ernst enjoys playing the piano and competing in triathlons. He attends the Self Realization Fellowship, a center for meditation and well-being. He lives with his wife, Shirley, daughter Daniella and son, Johann.
